Terrible customer service from Amazon Japan

Have you ever felt like you've been spoiled with great customer service since living in Japan that the bad experiences stand out all the more? I've been ordering from Amazon Japan frequently ever since I've lived here, and one recent interaction has me questioning who is working there!

I ordered some paint markers at the end of July, and they had a delivery date of September – a long wait, but I assumed they'd just run out of stock or something and needed to get more in. Once the estimated delivery date came and went, I reached out to their customer service team who said to give it a couple more weeks, and if I hadn't received a shipping notification that I should cancel the order.

Well, I tried to do that after two weeks of waiting again, and their system wouldn't allow me to cancel the order – it just kept coming up with an error message when I tried. Their customer service agent said they were also having technical issues with canceling the order, and would escalate it further.

After not hearing anything (again), I reached out again today and they said that they can't refund me until the order is canceled, but they can't tell me how long it'll take to cancel the order. If I paid for the order with a credit card I'd have grounds to dispute the transaction, but because it was done with Amazon JP gift cards I just have to wait.

Have you had any standout bad customer service experiences here?
