The description
This product is a Maple Butter Sandwich Pai no Mi, and it's a seasonal release from the Lotte brand. The packet was priced at 302 yen including tax.
The good
Lotte's new Pai no Mi flavor is a fun seasonal offering if you're already a fan of the product! The big hook is the "pie" portion is made with fermented New Zealand butter, and as an Aussie, I thought it was cool to see them using something from so close to my home corner of the world. The buttery aroma is richer IMO than the standard Pai no Mi, and the 64-layer pastry gives you that classic crispy texture. It also includes maple sugar chocolate made from Canadian maple syrup powder, which I feel gives off a lovely, cozy autumny–winter flavor profile. Worth trying out at least once, I think!
The not so good
The main drawback is how short-lived the product is likely to be. Because this flavor is strictly seasonal, if you end up really enjoying it, the window to stock up is slim, and Pai no Mi limited editions don't always return. The value side also isn't amazing, coming in at just over 300 yen -- there are definitely cheaper ways to get your sweets fix if you're not wedded to this specific item. Overall though, I'd say if you're a Pai no Mi fan that this is still worth giving a try, especially if the flavor profile sounds appealing. As far as I know these are probably being stocked at all convenience store chains and maybe even supermarkets, so keep your eyes peeled if these sound interesting to you!
