Inexpensive granny hobbies for life in Japan: diamond art

I wrote an article here on City-Cost a couple of months back about the rise of "granny hobbies" which was reported via the Japan Times. As a family we're quite into these kinds of hobbies (crafting, reading, basically simpler things!) and one that we've gotten into of late is diamond art.

I recently ordered a diamond art coaster set from Amazon Japan which my daughter has been completing, and it really is a hobby that keeps her occupied for quite a while. This set was 1399 yen and came with 8 different fruit-themed coasters, but they have a ton of different diamond art options online!

It's a time consuming process for larger items, but that's a good thing if you have busy kids (or just like crafting yourself!)

You definitely don't have to resort to paying Amazon prices, though, as there are plenty of diamond art options at 100 yen stores! You can find some of them online if you search for ダイヤモンドアート, but this blog shows a couple of kid-friendly 100 yen store choices: https://natsuma.jp/?p=3553
