Local area postage stamps
I love sending and receiving mail - I guess you could call me a bit old fashioned in that sense - and every time I’m at Japan Post I enjoy checking out the new stamps available. I’ve seen everything from stamps adorned with Hello Kitty, to Disney Princesses, and even a range that were in the shape of wagashi and other Japanese sweets.
A range that I saw the other day, though? Stamps that were unique to my local area!
They weren’t just for Niigata as a whole, but specific to my district. A local shrine, park, and some rice fields were just some of the scenes depicted on the stamp set. The region’s mascot even gets a nod on one of them.
I thought this was a really unique and interesting way to send a slice of your backyard in Japan to family and friends back home!
