The good
If you already like pudding, then this is a way to get your fix in a fancy way! The bottom part has a tart-like crust, and the top dome-shaped portion involves a delicious caramel-topped custard pudding. In my home country of Australia we have a dessert called a custard tart which is quite popular, and this reminded me a lot of that. It presents very nicely, and if it wasn't in convenience store packaging I think it would be easy to assume it came from an independent bakery. Really delicious for the custard loving folks out there.
The not so good
I do think this is a touch pricey -- around the 250 yen mark would have felt a bit more reasonable, rather than pushing the 300 yen mark. Also, the item sits inside a plastic tray, within the outer foil/plastic packaging. It's a lot of single use plastic, and I wonder if a sturdy cardboard tray would be suitable for desserts like these. Just wish there was a more biodegradable option! Overall though, solidly delicious, and as a custard fan I thought this was one of the better sweet treats I've tried in a while. Give it a try if you see it at a Family Mart store near you!
