Tokyo apartment prices compared to the rest of Asia

I saw an interesting article this morning via CNBC which looked at the average prices of a 1 bedroom apartment across 10 Asian cities. Tokyo was the only Japanese city on the list, and while I think the capital has a reputation as a pricey city, there were a couple of other destinations that substantially beat it for living costs.

The median price for a 1 bedroom apartment in Tokyo was quoted as $1,216 (based off US dollars), but Hong Kong and Singapore beat that with average rents of $2173 and a whopping $4590 respectively.

Conversely, it seems quite reasonable living in places like Mumbai in India ($481 per month) or Hanoi in Vietnam ($688 per month), although you do need to take into account things like the average monthly wage in those places.

If you live in Tokyo, how does your rent compare to the average quoted in the CNBC article?
