Making sure your dehumidifiers are fresh for warmer weather
As rainy season and humid summer days approach, it’s the perfect time to give your dehumidifier(s) a quick tune-up. I pulled mine out over the weekend to make sure they were fresh and ready for the season.
One thing I would recommend first is checking any manufacturer guidelines online. Our dehumidifiers are from the Corona brand, and they have a good info page which covers the main things to do to make sure your appliance is going to work well and not smell musty.
The water tank is a good place to start. I re-washed mine with a mix of dishwashing liquid, hot water, and vinegar.
Also, make sure to vacuum the air filter, where dust can accumulate. Admittedly, this had been neglected on our end of things for a while and was probably causing the musty smell I noticed.
One key thing is using the internal drying function on the device if you're planning on putting it away or not using it for a while. This is helpful for avoiding mold or mildew building up inside the device.
Are you already thinking about bringing out the dehumidifiers?
