Rice as a practical gift for Mother's Day?

There are certain things I definitely see as suitable Mother's Day gifts -- flowers are ubiquitous, jewelry and chocolate are also pretty par for the course. One thing I didn't really expect to see as a Mother's Day trend was gifting of rice, but apparently that's a thing this year!

The link above mentions the noticeable shift toward practical, meaningful presents amid rising food prices. With rice becoming more expensive and perceived as a luxury staple, gifting it now reflects care and thoughtfulness, and there's a draw to the idea of giving something useful and everyday.

How do you feel about the idea of gifting rice for Mother's Day? If you're a mom, would you appreciate the practicality of this, or is it akin to getting a cleaning appliance for a special occasion?

I get the impulse. I'm not a mom, but I'd rather receive a practical, consumable gift than flowers any day. But it's also a sad comment on how rice has become a luxury, as the prices are bananas now.
