The description
This product is a cream cheese-filled daifuku which was purchased from 7-11. It's part of their limited-time Hokkaido fair range, and was priced at 138 yen including tax.
The good
I love to see regionally-themed products at convenience stores, and I thought it was great that 7-11 are shining a light on some Hokkaido-based products. As many of you already know, Hokkaido is quite famous for its dairy products, so it was fun to see a cream cheese based daifuku option. The outer mochi was wonderfully chewy, and the cream cheese filling was really light and fluffy in texture -- I was pleasantly surprised by that, as I had expected it to be much more dense. It's also a wallet-friendly snack at just a smidge over 100 yen.
The not so good
One thing that I noticed about this was that the cream cheese filling was very tart in taste. It wasn't so much so that it was off-putting, but don't go into it expecting a western-style ultra sweet cheesecake filling flavor, or you'll probably be disappointed. I would have liked to see it a bit more sweet (and that's saying something, as I usually like Japan's mild sweetness in their desserts!), but that could just be my personal preference. I still liked it overall, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to repurchase it again.
