The rainy season hair struggle

One thing nobody properly warned me about before moving to Japan was the humidity. I'm not talking about the "slightly sticky summer day" kind either, but moreso the full-on rainy season humidity that somehow manages to undo your hair, makeup, and mood within minutes of leaving the house.

Apparently, it's not just me, and a lot of women here are feeling exactly the same way.

A recent survey from Rias Clinic polled women in their late 30s to 50s experiencing hair concerns during Japan's rainy season, and they found that 76% felt frizz and unruly hair became noticeably worse once the humidity hit. More than a third also said thinning hair or lack of volume became more obvious during this time of year.

According to the survey, over 60% of respondents said they spend longer styling their hair during the rainy season compared to other times of year. Despite that effort, around 70% said their hairstyle had already fallen apart by the morning or lunchtime.

Another thing that stood out to me from the research was how emotional the issue can become. Around 80% of respondents admitted they sometimes hesitate to go out or meet people because humidity makes thinning hair or flatness more noticeable. Many said they worried most about being judged by female friends, coworkers, or other mothers their age.

Do you struggle with hair frizz or flatness during the rainy season?
