The description
This product is a chocolate crepe, and it's available from Lawson convenience stores at the moment -- not sure if it's a permanent addition or a limited time only one.
The good
I feel like certain sweets at convenience stores roll in with the seasons, and I've seen crepes at both Family Mart and Lawson recently. This one from Lawson's Uchi Cafe sweets range is a classic chocolate flavor, and I think it's something just about anyone would enjoy. The outer crepe dough is chocolate flavored, and then inside there's both chocolate whipped cream and a chocolate sauce -- so it really is a bit of a trifecta of chocolatey flavors. I feel like the whipped cream does a good job of not making it feel too indulgent, even though it's chocolate flavored it seems to add a bit of lightness to the product. The price felt pretty decent too, coming in at under 250 yen -- that's my new barometer for convenience store sweets.
The not so good
I do think maybe this could have been improved by going for vanilla/milky flavored whipped cream over the chocolate variety, just to add a bit of flavor contrast and balance. I like chocolate as much as the next person, but the chocolate dough, chocolate whipped cream, and chocolate sauce felt perhaps a little *too* chocolately (if that's even a thing). Overall though, it was tasty and decently priced. If you're looking for an easily accessible crepe fix without a crazy price tag, pop in to your nearest Lawson convenience store and see if this is available near you. Happy eating, and enjoy! :)
