Mister Donut's prices set to rise again

I've found that it's often the small price increases that make the biggest difference to my weekly budget, and unfortunately, even a quick Mister Donut run is set to cost a little more very shortly.

From September 30th, Misdo is set to revise the prices of a range of its donuts, pies, dim sum, and drinks. They've said that rising raw material, logistics, labor, and energy costs have made the increases necessary to maintain both product quality and a stable supply.

For those of us keeping an eye on household spending, the changes are worth noting. 31 donut products will increase by ¥10, which represents an average 6% price increase. For example, that means popular options such as the Pon de Ring and Old Fashioned will rise from ¥160 to ¥170 before tax.

The increase is more noticeable for some other menu items. The three main pie products listed, including the Shrimp Gratin Pie and Hot Savory Pie BBQ Frankfurter, will rise from ¥230 to ¥250 before tax. Dim sum items will increase by ¥20 to ¥30, while drinks will see a ¥40 increase.

The good news? Mister Donut is also apparently reformulating its core products, so at least you'll be paying a little more for supposedly improved donuts.

I was worried this would happen - places increasing prices before the tax drop on April 1st. They may say it's rising costs; I know that they increased the wages this year, but they also know that come April, people are going to feel like they suddenly have extra money to burn. Raising their base prices now, taking a small hit on sales during the current drought, and position themselves to profit in April when consumers lose their price sensitivity and start splurging again. By the time that tax cut comes into play, it really will be too little, too late. Maybe I am too cynical!
