Cute, cuter, Sylvanian Families Halloween Buffet!

There are many options to eat out for Halloween afternoon tea in Japan but I have the problem that I don’t like most of the autumn sweets which include sweet potato, pumpkin or chestnut. Finding an afternoon tea without all of these, where I also liked the design and the price was still okay, was difficult this year. And therefore we decided on a sweets buffet this time, where I just can eat what I like several times and leave the things I don’t like behind.

We went to the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku which offers a “Sweets Collection with Sylvanian Families” at one of their restaurants in September and October. The price is 5,500 yen per person, which is close to my limit when going to places like this.

First of all, we were impressed by the display with all the small figures of Sylvanian Families in their Halloween outfits. It was just super cute and we couldn’t stop taking photos.

The buffet is an “order buffet” which means, you don’t walk around and put everything on the plate by yourself, but you can order as much as you want and the staff will bring it to you. The order was placed online, so you had to use a QR code with your smartphone. This system was the first time for me, but it was actually fun.

As a starter, everyone got a plate with a pumpkin gratin and a crepe with a Sylvanian Families print. Well, I would have personally skipped on the pumpkin gratin, and also most of the other savory dishes had ingredients I don’t like, so I mainly stayed with mini potato balls and cheese as a balance to the sweets.

The sweet dishes were all very delicious and there was much to try out. I nearly ordered everything on the list. You always only could make sets of four items when placing an order, however, this also helped with not ordering too much at once. Indeed, I was rolling out filled up with sugar after our two hours stay there.

The sweets were really delicious and my friends said they also enjoyed the savory dishes. We had a great time there and the staff at the restaurant was all nice. Definitely a place I would go back to for a sweets buffet.

If you are interested in going to the Keio Plaza Hotel by yourself, the theme of the Sylvanian Families Buffet will change for Christmas for November and December.
