The description
Hamamonyo is a textile manufacturer in Yokohama. This item is a furoshiki labeled Ume Ume Tsukushi furoshiki. The cloth is 100% cotton and 50 cm square.
The good
Lots of people go mad for cherry blossoms in spring. I love them, too. However, fragrant and vibrantly coloured plum blossoms make my spring every year. To refresh my stash of bento box furoshiki, I looked out for plum motifs. Hamamonyo, a textile manufacturer in Yokohama, produces this item, labeled Ume Ume Tsukushi. The 100% cotton fabric dyed using the nassen-zuri technique. It's got an attractive all-over plum blossom design. Two corners are dyed red. When you wrap it around a standard-size bento box, it forms contrasting "ears".
The not so good
This is an attractive, classy bento box wrapper offered at a reasonable price by Amazon seller, Hamamonyo. I got it for 660 yen. The colours really pop on this bento box furoshiki. It's produced using a traditional dying technique, nassen-zuri. The technique uses a different stencil for each colour, resulting in layers of contrasting hues. The pattern is sophisticated enough for a woman's bento box lunch. Two corners are solid dark plum that set off the plum motif. It feels very sturdy and it's just the right size for a ni-ju "double decker" bento box.
