The description
7-11 Convenience stores stock chilled sides for bento and dinner. This one, Nukazuke Moriawase contains a few slices each of carrot, cucumber, and turnip pickled rice-bran style.
The good
I enjoy cooking every day. Nearly every meal I eat is made in my own kitchen from fresh ingredients. Eating a variety of dishes is best, but solo cooking a wide range of small dishes takes a lot of effort and time. So occasionally, I break down and get osozai from the 7-11 convenience store. This small container has Nuka moriawase pickled vegetables. The rice bran pickling imparts a mildy tangy flavour. The three varieties of pickles come in a small plastic container. They are priced about 200 yen before tax.
The not so good
Some people are put off by the aroma of nukazuke, rice bran pickles, but I quite like the zingy, fermented flavour. There's nothing wrong with the product, Nukazuke Moriawase. However, it's just not economical. The supermarket nearby makes a few varieties of nukazuke in-house. For rinsed and sliced pickles, about 80 yen, and for whole pickles with the bran on, 100 yen. Absolutely go for the supermarket variety. So, why did I get these? The supermarket closes before I get in on a Monday evening. Really, these are last resort osozai.
