Magnolias, you’re late
I love mokuren, magnolias, the flowers that bloom right around cherry blossom time. They’re done so quickly that you can miss them. I managed to catch these back in April. They’re probably the Mulan variety.
On the edge of the school grounds is a line of trees that don’t look like anything most of the year. But at the end of May, they bloom.
They have big leathery leaves. And gorgeous ivory blossoms as big as your face.
So, spring is not done yet, despite the heat and humidity in the Kanto region.

This type of magnolia is what I'm used to in Louisiana. I want one of these in my yard! Love the think flowers and leaves

@edthethe Ah, your comment confirms what I suspected - these are southern magnolia, native to the US.
