Women commuters in the Kanto region may be familiar with It's Demo, a retail shop often found in or near train stations. The shops carry accessories, some clothing, makeup, and small items. Year-round, the shops stock umbrellas and parasols at various price points. The rain and shine parasol I settled on is about 2800 yen. The polyester fabric is opaque, mauve on the outside, and black on the inside. The tag indicates it cuts 100% of UV rays. The parasol's sleeve has a long loop attached, and the handle also has a strap.

I'm very happy with this small folding umbrella/parasol. The price isn't bad, either, under 3000 yen. It looks like the ribs are stable. When I was out in the wind, it inverted but the ribs easily snapped back into place with no damage. And it's demure. The outer polyester fabric is mauve with a wide ivory border. No frou-frou ruffles or fussy patterns. There were only two colours, mauve and blue, at that shop. Unlike other cheap parasols I've bought, this one has two handholds - a loop on the sleeve and a strap on the handle.
