The description
Calbee Confectionery's Poteto Chippusu Furenchi Sarada, widely available in supermarkets and convenience stores, is a tangy and sweet potato chip treat. The flavour imitates French dressing.
The good
I eat a lot of potato chips, it seems. I'm tiny and not that round in the middle, so I guess I need the calories! A variety of potato chips I've gotten hooked on recently is Calbee's Potato Chips French Salad. The flavours of French salad dressing really come through. The chips are sweet, tart, and herbal. The ingredients list reveals the appeal. The flavouring is made with herbs, olive oil, mustard, and vinegar. The combination of ingredients is a tangy, lightly sweet, and totally addictive potato chip flavour.
The not so good
Calbee's Potato Chips French Salad available at supermarkets is 100 yen for a 60-gram bag. The product is flavourful and satisfying. I indulge in these once or twice a month. I don't have complaints. However, I do worry about the issue of highly processed foods, or HPF for short. These are foods low in fiber and nutrition, loaded with flavour enhancers, and extruded or molded. How do these chips stack up? The ingredients include some flavourings and sugar. The colouring is derived from turmeric, and there is added fibre. I'd say go easy on these, as they're 330 calories a bag.
