UHA Mikakuto Confectionery produces two versions of a sweet potato snack. This one is called Osatsu Tokki Plain. It's a 56-gram package of thinly sliced sweet potatoes.
The good
Even though price rises have stabilized a bit in early 2026, a lot of products are expensive, especially snacks. For a cheap, tasty, and very crunchy potato chip fix, I went for Osatsu tokki, the plain version. I spotted this one and the sweet salted butter version at a Seki Drugstore. The plain version in a 56-gram bag has a bold design which features the golden hue of satsuma imo, or sweet potatoes. The chips are lightly salty and naturally sweet. These chips are super crunchy. They're thin but also very hard.
The not so good
For a 56-gram bag of lightly salty, faintly sweet potato chips, these are pretty decent. I like the simple flavour, similar to potato chips. Despite the thinness, they're very hard, so mind your teeth! These chips remind me of "kettle chips", a snack popular in other countries. They're prepared in small batches at variable temperatures to create a very hard texture. The UHA Mikakuto version is a close approximation. The product website extolls the healthful aspect. Sweet potatoes are packed with fibre and nutrients.
