The cost of groceries in autumn 2025
My wicker shopping basket is small, a little tighter than the standard size you find in supermarkets. I shop nearly every day, usually spending about 1000-1500 yen on each trip. To be honest, I cruise the discounted items and consider the quality and value of the produce I buy. According to Yomiuri Shinbun, prices continue to rise due to logistics and the yen depreciation.
As you may have noticed from my TtoE blog posts, I cook at home a lot to keep food costs down. Here's a recent photo of my food purchases.

I'm doing well, since I rely on one of the cheaper supermarket chains. I've become more aware of how I shop. Last year, Genkidesu shared Japan's supermarket price scale with us, and I shop at the lowest prices during discount periods.
This basket cost me a little over 1500 yen.

How are you managing? What are you scrimping on?
