The description
Asahi Beverage released a retro version of Mitsuya Cider in April 2025. Mitsuya Cider Classic's label has a throwback design and supposedly flavour. It comes in a PET plastic bottle.
The good
Are you in the Mitsuya camp, or are you a fan of Kirin Lemon? These two drinks have competed for decades. The rivalry and fan base is akin to 7Up and Sprite. Mitsuya Cider (not an alcoholic drink but a fizzy soda) is mostly lemon-lime flavoured but has hints of ginger. This year, Asahi released this retro version, Mitsuya Cider Classic. It's got the same classic flavour, tart and zippy, but subtly different, a little more sweet and sour. The label is the appeal, resembling the white and blue glass bottle design of the 60s.
The not so good
Mitsuya Cider Classic is much like the standard version of the drink, tart, sweet, and snappy. It's just as good as ever. I have no complaints about this version and I'd get it again. My impression is that it's a little sweeter than the standard version I recall. I recommend drinking it after chilling it to near freezing. The product website indicates this drink was released in April 2025 and may be a limited product. I'd love to see this label design in the aluminum bottle version, which would make a cool gift. Alas, I think it's only produced in PET plastic.
