The description
Nemu no Ki Okashi Kobo in Sakae Town, Chiba Prefecture, supplies sweets to vendors in the Sakae Town area. These sweets are simply labeled "plain" Nemu no Sato Kashi.
The good
On a day trip to Boso no Mura, the prefectural open-air history museum, I picked up a snack to sustain me until dinner. I cheaped out for a 300 yen packet of three sweets, plain round cakes labeled "Nemu no Sato Kashi." These sweets are available at the farmer's market, Taiko no Sato. The cakes are about the size of the palm of my hand. I didn't expect much, but they're flaky and tender, made with butter, flour, sugar, lemon, and decorated with almond slivers. They are much like madeleines in texture.
The not so good
Nemu no Sato Kashi are lovely cakes with a cup of tea. They're reasonably priced, too, for three. There is a story here which I discovered when I checked the label. Nemu no Sato/Nemu no Ki is a NPO based in Sakae Town. The NPO employs people who have disabilities. There are sweets and goods workshops, open-air cafes, and a restaurant. The little cakes are made with a lot of care and remind me of my family's home baking. I recommend looking out for their goods at Boso no Mura and Sakae Town's public facilities.
