The description
Kirin's Tokusei brand of ready to drink shochu highballs features classic flavors. This one, Kirin Tokusei Lemon Sour is 7% alcohol. It's priced at just about 100 yen before tax.
The good
On Japan-related subreddits, the Strong Zero meme comes up from time to time. You broke up with your sweetie? Had a good day at work? A bad day? Have a Strong Zero. The alcohol content of that particular brand of ready-to-drink shochu highball is a whopping 9% alcohol. And it's cheap. Kirin is doing something else - in their Kirin Tokusei brand, they have different percentages of alcohol in their sours. This one is 7%, produced with lemon-infused liqueur and domestically-produced vodka. It's got a complex flavor and kick.
The not so good
These are pretty strong for me, so I go easy on it. If you have a low alcohol tolerance, this one isn't for you. One of the features Kirin touts is that the sour is low in purines. For people susceptible to gout. Some triggers for gout flare up are red meat, sugary treats, and alcohol. However, bear in mind that hard alcohol is very low in purines to begin with. I think this product is meant to appeal to drinkers who are avoiding beers that have purines. And it's cheaper than beer. It's quite alcoholic, but pour it over ice and sip it slowly and it's pretty good.
