The description
Ishigaki Sangyo vends imported and domestic cookware suitable for Japanese cuisine. This item is a No. 8 size donabe, earthenware pots, suitable for hot pot and rice cooking.
The good
You may have read about the demise of my donabe. It's an earthenware pot that I depended on for hot pot dishes and rice cooking. I haven't used a suihanki, an automated rice cooker, in years, as donabe rice cooking is my go-to. It takes only marginally more effort than prepping rice for a rice cooker. So I took a gamble on a single-lid donabe on Amazon Japan. Ishigaki Sangyo carries both domestic and imported kitchen equipment. This item is a No. 8-size earthenware pot imported from China. The vendor says it is suitable for 3-4 diners.
The not so good
This imported donabe pot, a No. 8 size, suitable for 3-4 diners, is a winner. It's a steal at just over 2000 yen. The pot is ivory, and I wondered how it would fare on the gas ring. It's resistant to scorching. I wiped it down with cold water after the first batch of rice. It cleaned up well. It's big, and I thought I'd gotten a size too large. However, for rice cooking, a bigger donabe is ideal. When you cook rice in a donabe, bigger is better to maintain a consistent texture. Two measures of rice cooked up fluffy and tender.
