The description

Kagome's Beyond Orange, with a question mark, is a 100% juice drink. The label tells consumers that the drink contains no orange juice, and asks them to guess what is in it.

The good

I needed hydration and craved something sweet, so when I spotted Kagome's Beyond Orange, I couldn't resist. The orange-coloured pack has a big question mark on it. The copy says Not made with orange juice! and 100% orange-flavoured juice. There is a message at the bottom of the label assuring folks who are allergic to oranges that this drink is orange-free. The blend of fruit and vegetable juice is primarily made with yellow carrots grown in New Zealand. It's sweet, fruity, and you won't miss the oranges.

The not so good

I'll be honest, I chose this 165 ml juice box over others just for the novel packaging. It's pretty good, and achieves what Kagome set out to do - create a flavourful orange juice substitute. I'd get this again. So, why did Kagome create this? It's economics, dude. The product website, complete with charts and references, shows how the price of orange juice has gone through the roof. Kagome's kitchen experimented with ratios of vegetable and fruit juice to come up with a blend that has a good mouth feel and flavour.
