Hailing from the same region as Shizuoka Sencha, matcha syrup, also known as "matcha mitsu" in Japanese, adds a unique twist to various culinary creations. This concentrated syrup, traditionally made by combining matcha powder with sugar and hot water, offers a vibrant green color and a distinct earthy sweetness.

While exploring the world of green tea and matcha pie, let's not forget the rich cultural tapestry that Shizuoka Prefecture offers.

Last October, I had the opportunity to embark on a personal pilgrimage to the final resting place of the legendary Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate and a pivotal figure in Japanese history. My journey began with a ride on the Nihondaira Ropeway, a scenic gondola that whisked me up the mountainside, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. As I ascended, the anticipation of reaching the shrine grew.

Upon reaching the top, I was greeted by the serene atmosphere of the Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, the final resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu.

The intricate carvings, vibrant colors, and historical significance of the shrine left a lasting impression. Standing before Ieyasu's grave, I felt a sense of connection to the past and a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of Japanese history.
