Finally, Sakura Season 2024 is here!

It seemed to take forever this year, but the cherry blossoms have finally started to bloom here in the greater Tokyo area!

I’ve always found March in Japan rather disappointing. It promises spring but it seldom delivers all that you hope for. This year, it was even worse than usual! We were hit by A LOT of cold days. Yes, the daylight hours got longer, but it felt like I would never be able to put my scarf and coat away.

Then last Friday happened. The morning was as cold as ever, with lashing rain and wild winds to cap it off. But sometime during the rain, a hint of humidity crept started creeping. Then, as the rain slowed and finally tapered off, the skies completely cleared and it began to feel… warm. Very warm.

And that evening, someone checked the flowers on a designated tree and cherry blossom season was declared to have begun.

We had an incredibly warm weekend, and the last couple of days have been mild, all of which has resulted in more and more blossoms blooming, and I hope all interested people are getting a chance to enjoy them. The next few days seem to feature a lot of rain in the forecast, but I’m sure there are some lovely photos to be taken anyway - I’m quite fan of pale blossoms against moody grey skies myself.

Happy sakura season!
