Shizuoka Matcha Leaf Pie from Makinohara

Yesterday I received a wonderful surprise from the city of Makinohara in Shizuoka :)

It's a leaf-shaped pie with matcha filling.

Classy packaging, simple and nice. A tasteful gift box to give as souvenir.

Each leaf pie is wrapped comfortably in a satin like paper/plastic wrapping.

You can tell how much considerable effort is put into packaging these. The patterns and attention to detail is truly Japanese, reflecting the locals' sense of design and tradition.

Overall I found the unboxing experience to be satisfactory. The simplicity of its design is something I appreciated, and would recommend others to follow suit, sans the non-recyclable materials such as plastics to reduce waste.

I also found the leaf pie itself to be quite cutely shaped, the perfect size for two to three normal human bites ;)

Size-wise it makes for a nice companion to tea-drinking leisure. Appearance-wise I found the leaf-pie to be a bit bland in coloring, perhaps serving as a contrast to the thick green coloring of the matcha drink it's usually accompanies.

Perhaps a tastier brown caramel coloring would excite the sight sensor more - visually I think the leaf pie is alright.  You need to be careful though, because they're quite fragile and break easily during transport or rougher handling occasions. So you need to be careful when distributing them, lest they crack and crumble

Visually stimulating enough and packaged with style, I feel like the Shizuoka leaf pie would accompany a relaxing tea drink. Especially when it's served cold, the pies might make for an interesting contrast to bitter hot matcha; a bitter-hot-sweet-cold liquid-solid pairing.

Branded and advertised as MATCHA leaf pie, I feel this sweet snack ought to insert more matcha filling, as I couldn't really taste the matcha flavor upon the first nor second nor third bite. Perhaps less flour and margarine to truly enhance and bring forth to highlight the matcha taste from its origin of Makinohara.
