Extending the Life of Clothing

Today, and September 29th annually, is Long-lasting Clothes Day つづく服。の日 in Japan. It is a commemorative day created by a clothing company to promote the idea of, in essence, sustainable clothing.

The company, BEAMS, have a "Tsuzuku Fuku" project which promotes initiavites that consider the roles of producers, sellers, and consumers in reducing waste and extending the life of clothing.

In a world where fast fashion often encourages frequent purchases and disposal, Long-lasting Clothes Day promotes repairing, reusing, and choosing quality garments to reduce environmental impact.

It is not the only anniversary in the year that promotes the idea of Sustainable Clothing. Just last month there was a similar anniversary "Sustainable Fashion Clothing" Day. Together, hopefully they will remind people to be conscious of their choices and help to extend the life of clothing.
