Umbrella Season Without End: Tokyo's Record-Breaking Rain

Central Tokyo has set a new rainfall record, marking 34 consecutive days with measurable precipitation as of today, September 29th, 2026. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, rain has been recorded every day at its observation site in Chiyoda Ward since 27 August, surpassing the previous record of 33 straight rainy days set in 2019.

The unusually long wet spell has been linked to a stationary autumn rain front. While some days have brought only light showers or trace amounts of rainfall, the streak has nevertheless continued uninterrupted. Rain is also expected tomorrow which will bring another new record of 35 consecutive days. However, it looks like there is some sunshine on the way on Thursday, October 1st.
