Aqua Fitness: Moving Lightly, Strengthening Deeply

One of the many anniversaries on April 28th annually in Japan is Aqua Fitness Day. It is a health focused commemoration established by the popular sports brand Mizuno. The date sits just before "Golden Week", a period of national holidays and a time when many people look for fresh routines. Making it an ideal period to encourage beginners to try water-based exercise.

Aqua fitness refers to a wide range of movements performed in water, such as water walking, aqua aerobics and swimming, designed to use the unique properties of water for safe and effective training. One of its greatest advantages is reduced joint impact. Because buoyancy lowers body weight to roughly one-tenth of what it is on land, people with knee or back pain can move comfortably. At the same time, water provides strong resistance, about 800 times greater than air, allowing even slow movements to bulld strength and endurance.

Aqua fitness supports circulation, eases stiffness and encourages natural abdominal breathing, which also strengthens respiratory muscles. It is accessible even for those who cannot swim, making it a gentle yet powerful option for long-term wellness. Aqua Fitness Day is a great reminder of the accessibility and health benefits of any type of pool-based exercise.
