German Wine Day in Japan
Today, and April 28th annually, is German Wine Day ドイツワインの日 in Japan. It is a commemoration created by the Japan German Wine Association Federation in 2012.
The date was chosen for a playful reason: both German Wine and Golden Week share the initials "GW"! It makes the day, just before the holiday period of Golden Week, a symbolic time to introduce people to the charm of German Wine. The first commemoration, in 2012, was reportedly set on the 150th anniversary of Japan- Germany Friendship adding another cultural depth to the celebration.
Germany is known as one of the northernmost wine-producing regions in the world, where vineyards stretch along the Rhine and Mosel rivers. These steep, sun-catching slopes produce wines with bright acidity, delicate fruit and a purity shaped by the cool climate. Regions such as Rheingau, Rheinhessen and Mosel are especially famous for their distinctive styles. The star of German wine is Riesling.
I have seen German wine on sale in Japan, but not as much as other countries. But German Wine Day is a good a reason as any to source a bottle of fine German wine and give it a try!

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
