The rainy season has been declared
The big news today in the Kanto area of Japan is that the rainy season has been declared. The Japan Meteorological Agency announced on Sunday June 7th, 2026, that the rainy season has begun in the Kanto-Koshin and Tokai regions.
Interestingly, for the Kanto-Koshin region, which includes Tokyo, the start is the same as an 'average' year, but is actually sixteen days later than last year, 2025. Meanwhile, for the Tokai region it is just one day later than an average year, but 21 days later than last year. However, 2025 had one of the earliest starts to rainy season in years.
The temperatures were so cool today, June 7th, that I am actually wearing a jumper! I personally prefer cooler weather to heat any day of the year! But from here on in, there will be a great mix of temperatures until around mid-July. Which do you prefer - the cooler days or the warm, humid days?
