The yellow rose, a birthday flower of June 7th
There are several different 'birthday flowers' of June 7th annually. They include Cape Jasmine, Azalea, the Benjamin Tree, White Lace Flower and the Yellow Rose. In this post - the yellow rose, but you will also find posts on Cape Jasmine, Azalea and White Lace flowers on City-cost too.
The yellow rose carries a uniquely complex presence in Japan. Its bright, sunlit petals naturally evoke warmth, optimism and signal the approach of early summer, yet its hanakotoba (language of flowers) tells a more layered story. In Japanese flower language the yellow rose symbolizes decrease of love 愛情の薄らぎ and jealousy 嫉妬. However, it also signifies friendship, which is a meaning it shares with Western flower language.
In Japan, roses begin blooming in early summer, with many varieties flowering from May to June, and repeat-blooming types returning again in October to November. Yellow roses often appear in public rose gardens during this season, glowing warmly against deep green foliage. They are also (the yellow rose specifically) the birthday flower of July 29th, although not in bloom at that time.
