Checking my tools on Tool Day

Today, and May 9th annually, is Tool Day in Japan. It is an anniversary established by Kyoto Tool Company (KTC), a major Japanese manufacturer known for producing automotive maintenance tools, medical tools, and a wide range of general work tools essential to craftsmanship and manufacturing.

They chose May 9th as the date of the anniversary as it can be read as "kou (5) gu (9)", the Japanese for "tool". The purpose of the day is to share foundational knowledge about tools, promote correct usage and maintenance, and help both professionals and DIY beginners work safely and comfortably.

The company behind it (KTC) also hopes that the anniversary will energize the entire tool industry, encouraging manufacturers to use the day as an opportunity to highlight the importance of reliable, well‑designed tools. Reportedly, KTC hold events on the day and encourage people to learn the proper way to hold and maintain tools.
