Concrete Housing in Japan
There are at least 35 different anniversaries, commemorations and observances on May 10th annually. While perusing them, one that stood out was Concrete Housing Day コンクリート住宅の日, because you don't see that many concrete houses in Japan.
Whatever the reason, there are so few concrete houses in my area, that when I see one it really stands out. The RC-Z House Association Cooperative want to address that by increasing the appeal of concrete houses. Thus, among other things, they created this anniversary. They chose May 10th for the anniversary because 5/10 can be read (at a push) as "co (5) ncrete (10)".
They aim to highlight the durability, fire resistance and design advantages of concrete homes, which they promote as earthquake resilient. The "RC" of the company's name, stands for "Reinforced Concrete", which is indeed pitched as both robust and environmentally friendly.
Do you see many concrete homes in your area?
