A day for all other roll cakes

As I have previously introduced, the 6th of every month celebrates hand-rolled Swiss roll cake. But the 6th of June annually is a more generic, you might even say inclusive, Roll Cake Day ロールケーキの日 for all kinds of roll cakes!

The sweet anniversary was born in Kokura in Kitakyushu, an area where roll cakes have long been a beloved local tradition. The organizing committee continues to champion roll cake culture through tasting events, new flavor development and the lively Roll Cake Festa. At the roll cake festa visitors can sample a wide range of styles and flavors of roll cakes.

The Kokura committee chose the 6th of June for the anniversary because 6 resembles the spiral of a roll cake. I chose the photo for this post, because (of the photos I had to hand) you can see the resemblance to the number 6. The celebration highlights not only the dessert's charm, but also the community spirit behind it.
