The description
A small, individually wrapped Châteraisé cake filled with Setouchi lemon cream and real diced lemon peel blended into a white-chocolate based filling.
The good
Among Chateraise’s many seasonal sweets, the Setouchi Lemon Bouchée stands out visually first. The sunny yellow wrapper feels cheerful and summery, and the size is perfect for a small snack rather than a heavy dessert. The sponge itself is soft and pleasantly light, with that familiar Chateraise balance of sweetness that doesn’t overwhelm. The filling is made with white chocolate and Setouchi lemon, and you can really sense the use of “real” lemon rather than artificial flavoring. For people who enjoy marmalade or citrus peel, the diced candied rind inside the cream will be a highlight, adding a natural aroma and a bold, zesty character.
The not so good
But for me, the exact presence of the diced candied rind was why I didn't like this product and deducted two stars! I tried three different flavors of Chateraise's bouche and I really enjoyed the other two flavors, but unfortunately, I cannot say the same for this flavor. However, I am not one for rind, full stop. So, for example, I always get marmalade without the rind in it. I do usually enjoy lemon sweets, but I prefer a smoother citrus profile without peel or bitterness, and here the rind becomes the main impression. However, if you like rind, conversely you may actually enjoy this. But if you don't, I recommend you pick up one of the other flavors. Personally, I like the mixed berry flavor the best.
