The Joy of Getting a Discounted Lawson Sandwich

Last week something happened to me that very rarely happens. In fact, in my twenty years in Japan, I only remember it happening one other time. That is, getting a Lawson sandwich at a discounted price during the day. Moreover, it was a 100 yen discount. 

I know its quite common to get discounted foods at night in a convenience store. However, I rarely see sandwiches discounted even at night. But this was during the daytime, at around 3.30 pm. I couldn't believe my luck. Not that it affected my purchase - I was going to buy the sandwich regardless. I was just delighted with the rarity of finding a sandwich with a 30% discount in the afternoon.

Moreover, when I looked at the expiry, which is written on the back of the package, the sandwich was good for another six whole hours. I would have thought you could only get bargain discounts when there is only an hour or two left on the best before period.
