Kura Sushi's 'Bikkuri Pon' a huge hit with the kids

Our nearest chain rotating sushi restaurants are all Hama Sushi (Hamazushi), but recently we went the extra distance to a Kura Sushi. My youngest child, who is still in elementary school, particularly loves Kura Sushi because of their 'Bikkuri Pon'. 

Bikkuri Pon! is Kura Sushi's capsule-prize game system. After finishing and returning five plates through the slot at the table, you automatically get entered into a draw for the capsule machine above your table. A short animation appears on the tablet from which you order your food after which it says "hazure" (didn't win) or "atari" if you win. If you win, a small prize is dispensed from a capsule machine.

According to my elementary school daughter's research, you have a one in five chance of winning on average! We did it four times and won once. The prize right now is a cute little chopsticks rest, pictured. The prizes change regularly, always with a few in the set which encourages customers to come back often and try to collect the full set. We are not at that level of commitment, but the "Bikkuri Pon" is a fun element of a trip to Kura Sushi.
