Happy Birthday Licca-chan!

Today, May 3rd, is Licca-chan's birthday リカちゃんの誕生日 in Japan. In Japanese, her name is spelt Rika, but the official English is Licca. She is a dress up doll, much like Barbie, created by the well-known toy company Takara Tomy. 

Licca-cahan's official profile has remained consistent since her debut more than almost 60 years ago. Her full name is Licca Kayama, she was born on May 3rd and she is 11 years old, for the last 59 years! Making her a fifth-grade student. She was originally designed by manga artist Miyako Maki and was released in July 1967. Within just two yeares, she became the number one dress-up doll in Japan.

Today, she remains popular. Popular enough that she is the only fictional character ever listed in the Japan Talent Directory! Moreover, there are various events around Japan today in her honor. For example, in Saitama Prefecture, they had a birthday party for her today at Seibuen Amusement Park! Its part of a broader Licca-chan event on at the park until July.
