The description
This Mixed Berry Bouche by Chateraise blends fluffy cake with a sweet berry and white chocolate cream. Light, fruity, and easy to enjoy and just 130 yen before tax.
The good
I thoroughly enjoyed the Châteraisé’s Mixed Berry Bouche. It is a soft, airy busse / bouche filled with a berry cream made from strawberry and raspberry purée blended with white chocolate. The result is a mild, fruity sweetness rather than a sharp berry punch, making it feel like a small, creamy dessert. The cake itself is really light and airy, and the berry aroma comes through without being overwhelming. At 130 yen before tax, it’s an accessible treat that fits nicely into an afternoon tea break. If you buy a set it comes in a lovely box, which makes a nice present too.
The not so good
This isn't on this particular product, but just a general observance about the name of this food product. “Bouche” comes from French, specifically bouchée, meaning “a bite” or “a small mouthful.” Châteraisé uses ブッセ (busse) in Japanese, but I have come to call it “bouche” because a lot of other brands call it "bouche" in English. I never had a "bouche"/ "bouchee" / "busse" before I came to Japan, I don't know if they even have them in my country and if they do, what they are called. If you do know, please do comment, thank you.
Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
