The strawberry Fresh Donut is one of the highlights of Fujiya’s new lineup in 2026. The pastry has that soft, almost choux‑like top, and inside is a generous amount of strawberry jam that’s far better than most jams I’ve tried in Japan. Its smooth - I prefer my jam without pieces in it! It’s sweet, fruity, and wonderfully nostalgic; it reminded me of the jam donuts back home in Ireland, only lifted by Fujiya’s smooth cream. Of the four flavors, this was my second favorite, offering a lovely balance of comfort, sweetness, and that familiar jammy warmth.

If I had to find a downside, it’s that the strawberry Fresh Donut leans quite sweet, especially with the combination of jam and cream. Those who prefer a sharper, more tart strawberry might find it a little gentle. The biggest downside is the price. At 388 yen, before tax, per donut, buying one for everyone in my family works out quite expensive and it's probably more economical to buy a cake to share. But the price is worth it for an occasional treat. All my kids loved these donuts as much as I did.
