A reminder of the necessity of wipers

Today, and June 6th annually, is Wiper Day ワイパーの日 in Japan. As in car windshield wipers. The anniversary was established by the Japan Wiper Blade Association (JWF) to highlight the essential role of wiper blades in road safety.

The reason for the June 6th date for the anniversary is twofold. One, June is the heart of the rainy season, a time when wipers are used most frequently. Two, the date “6/6” reflects the idea of two blades working as a pair, a simple visual that makes the day easy to remember.

The purpose of the anniversary is to encourage proper maintenance and timely replacement of wiper blades, helping drivers stay safe during heavy rain, when visibility drops and roads become slippery. The association recommends checking and replacing wipers once a year to maintain a clear field of vision.

The anniversary serves as an important reminder that wipers are not just a convenience, but also a necessary safety tool. I have to admit that I don't think I have ever replaced wipers on a car. Have you?
