The description
This product is a pack of four soft, fluffy sponge cake type treats filled with a light custard‑whipped cream that is made with Hokkaido condensed milk.
The good
I got this when they were at a reduced price. I don't know what they are usually, although online it implies they retail around 380 yen, but I got them for 247 yen, which seemed reasonable. They aren't too heavy which makes them a suitable treat for after dinner. The sponge is interesting, for want of a better word. It tastes like egg sponge. Its soft and airy. They call the filling "custard-whipped cream", but it just tasted like custard to me. Best straight out of the fridge - it does taste better when chilled as I learned from trying it straight out of the fridge and then later after sitting out on the table for a bit. The packaging is cute.
The not so good
The sweetness isn't too powerful, it's a nice subtle sweetness. However, it might be a little too subtle for some. Same thing with the custard. The sponge feels like its incomplete, like what you might make as part of a cake and then add icing or some sort of coating. Overall, I wasn't overly enamored with this product. I bought another of Fujiya four pack treats, a type with choux, which was far nicer and I will stick to buying that in the future. My children weren't overly impressed with this Fujiya 'custard whipped cream cake either'.
