A reminder for oral care

Today is Oral Care Day 口腔ケアの日 one of about 30 anniversaries on May 9th annually in Japan. It is also one of dozens of teeth and oral care related anniversaries through the year. I get the overwhelming impression that Japan takes teeth and oral care very seriously. And I really respect and appreciate that.

Anniversaries like these are a gentle reminder to look after our teeth and mouths. Just hearing of an anniversary like this might remind someone that they are overdue a visit to the dentist. It also encourages people to rethink their daily habits and recognize the importance of regular brushing, flossing, as well as dental checkups. Things that can help prevent not only cavities and gum disease but also systemic issues such as aspiration pneumonia and diabetes.

Another way to think of it too is that oral care supports not only comfortable eating but also confident communication and even healthy aging, making it a cornerstone of quality of life.
