International Jazz Day
The Japan Anniversary Association shares anniversaries, commemorations and observances registered in Japan. But in Japan they also recognize the International Days set forth by UNESCO, as a UNESCO member state. Today, there is a UNESCO International anniversary: International Jazz Day 国際ジャズデー.
"International Jazz Day" is a global tribute to the power of jazz as a bridge between cultures. It was established at UNESCO's General Conference in Paris in 2011. The day highlights how jazz can deepen understanding across borders and brings people together through creativity and dialogue.
Since 2012, countries around the world, particularly the 195 UNESCO member states, join in marking this occasion with concerts, workshops, talks and community events. In Japan, you can find special "jazz night" events on in most major cities around this time of year. Japan also has its own Jazz anniversaries too, such as Jazz Day on January 22nd and Kobe Jazz Day on April 4th.
