A fitting midsummer anniversary for jelly

In my previous post, I introduced "Gelatin Day". Because jelly relies on gelatin as its main ingredient, July 14th is also recognized as Jelly Day ゼリーの日 in Japan. Jelly is a staple of childhood lunches, convenience‑store sweets, and home kitchens, especially during the humid July heat when something cool and wobbly feels just right.

The anniversary was created to highlight how versatile jelly is; not only the classic fruit‑flavored cups, but also coffee jelly, milk jelly, kanten‑style clear jellies, and the elegant, layered desserts found in patisseries. Many families keep a few cups in the fridge as an easy treat, and supermarkets often feature seasonal flavors around this time of year.

Jelly Day is a small, sweet reminder of how comforting these everyday desserts can be, especially in midsummer Japan.  Moreover, it is a fun excuse to enjoy a cool, wobbly summer treat!
