The description
This product is an onigiri with 'Salmon Sushi' on top, which is actually trout, generous slices of it, paired with a vinegared sushi rice ball. From 7-Eleven.
The good
I picked up the 7-Eleven Salmon Sushi onigiri expecting a simple seafood snack, but it turned out to be a surprisingly satisfying light meal. Although the package refers to "salmon sushi," the label notes that it uses trout, which is common in Japan and still delivers the rich flavor and silky texture many people associate with salmon. The fish slices were generous and covered much of the rice, giving the product a more premium appearance than I expected from a convenience store item. The vinegared rice was delicious too. As with all convenience store onigiri, it is suitable for eating on the go.
The not so good
While the 7-Eleven Salmon Sushi is convenient and visually appealing, it may not satisfy everyone, particularly those expecting a traditional sushi experience. The first issue is the fish itself. Although marketed as salmon sushi, the label indicates that trout is used. Many consumers may not notice the difference, but seafood enthusiasts could find the flavor milder and less rich than genuine salmon. This can create a slight disconnect between expectation and reality. The portion size is another drawback. While the product works well as a snack or light meal, it may not be sufficient enough if you are particularly hungry. And at 275 yen, before tax, 297 with tax, it's not exactly cheap. It is more expensive than other available onigiri.
