Seven Iconic Places for Swan Boats in Japan
Swan boats are one of Japan’s most nostalgic summer pastimes, appearing on lakes and ponds across the country. Here are seven iconic spots where you can enjoy these gentle paddle boats - each offering its own seasonal charm.
1. Ueno Park, Tokyo
A classic and easily accessible location with views of Shinobazu Pond and lotus leaves in summer.
2. Inokashira Park, Kichijoji
The scene of swan boats and cherry blossoms on the pond is one of Japan's most famous scenes. A post to come on an urban legend related to couples and swan boats!
3. Lake Kawaguchi, Yamanashi
Another picture-perfect location - few swan boat locations can beat the scene of swan boats with Mount Fuji in the background.
4. Lake Yamanaka, Yamanashi
Not only does Lake Yamanaka have the paddle swan boats, but they also have a giant tour boat shaped like a swan!
5. Lake Ashi, Hakone
Another location with views of Mt Fuji and you can also ride past the red torii gate and forested hills.
6. Ohori Park, Fukuoka
Cute swan boats with bow ties! Capturing scenic views of the vibrant vermilion Ukimido (floating pavilion).
7. Lake Towada, Aomori/Akita
Paddle over prefecture borders on the Lake Towada pedal boas, pictured. Offering crystal-clear water and dramatic northern landscapes.

Have you taken a swan boat out at any of these locations? Is there any other spot you would add to this list?
